Summer School 2020: Sustainable Entrepreneurship – Theory and Practice

July 20 – July 31 in Munich

Sustainable entrepreneurship, with its combination of economic, social and ecological goals, is a powerful tool for tackling grand societal challenges. The International Summer School provides you with the theoretical and practical input you need to become a changemaker. Our objective: Inform – Inspire – Interact!

Benefit from cutting-edge research at a triple crown accredited business school and the rich experience of sustainable entrepreneurs. Get to grips with the theory and practice of founding a new sustainable business.

Work with dedicated academics and a diverse group of sustainable entrepreneurs from different industries, including fashion, food and energy. Participate in interactive workshops and learn to see societal challenges as entrepreneurial opportunities.

Collaborate with people from all over the world and generate creative entrepreneurial ideas for tackling the grand societal challenges of the 21st century. Work in small teams to develop your own business concept and become a changemaker.

International Summer School

Target group:International Master’s students and young professionals with an interest in sustainability and entrepreneurship

(April 30, 2020 recommended deadline for students that need to apply for a visa)

Program fee: 1,790  (for early birds applicants); 1,990 (for all other applicants)
Program fee includes:Workshops, lectures, tour at three TUM campuses, lunch, extensive cultural program in the evenings and at the weekend
Credits:6 ECTS (Equivalent to 3 Credits in the Anglo-Saxon context)
Examination:Presentation – pitching a business model
Accommodation:Students can opt to take a shared room (daily breakfast & Wi-Fi included) in a Hotel in the center of Munich. Additional € 27 – € 33 per night, depending on the chosen type of room


The International Summer School 2020 includes an extensive supporting program. Together we will explore the vibrant entrepreneurial scene in Munich. You will have the opportunity to visit leading institutions in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship and meet the founders of purpose-driven companies and experience their innovative products first hand.

You can enjoy a true Bavarian experience in Munich and its stunning surroundings. The cultural program includes a visit to a beer garden, hiking in the Alps, a barbecue by the Isar river, an alternative bike tour of local hotspots and a great farewell party.

International Summer School

Prof. Dr. Frank Martin Belz

Dr. Frank-Martin Belz received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). Since 2003 he has been full professor and holder of the Chair for Corporate Sustainability at TUM School of Management. He focusses his research on sustainable entrepreneurship in industrialized and developing countries.

Dr. Rebecca Preller

Entrepreneurship Research Institute
TUM School of Management

Dr. Rebecca Preller is researcher at the TUM Entrepreneurship Research Institute. Her research focuses on how entrepreneurial teams develop ideas into businesses over time. She teaches courses on business idea development at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD level as well as for corporate clients. Before starting her PhD program she worked as a strategy consultant serving clients with an innovation focus.

Dr. Dominik Domnik

Social Entrepreneurship Academy

Dr. Dominik Domnik holds a PhD in Economics from the University of St. Gallen. He is a serial social entrepreneur and Chief Financial Officer of the Social Entrepreneurship Akademie, a cooperation of the leading Munich universities. The Social Entrepreneurship Academy provides education for societal change.

Dr. Sebastian Planck

Social Entrepreneurship Academy

Dr. Sebastian Planck has worked as a campaigner and storyteller for a sustainable consultancy. He founded a social project  and he is head of qualification at the Social Entrepreneurship Academy, responsible for all learning formats. The Social Entrepreneurship Academy is a cooperation of the leading Munich Universities and provides education for societal change.

Dr. Aline Menden


Dr. Aline Menden received her PhD from the TUM School of Management. She is co-founder and managing director of Endeva, a global network of thought leaders and brokers, who accelerate inclusive business innovations. Over the past ten years, Dr. Menden has led and implemented a variety of research and consulting projects for a broad range of organizations, including large companies, NGOs, international organizations, and foundations.

Florian Henle

Florian Henle studied European Business Administration and graduated with a double degree from Cambridge and Landshut. He was finalist of the Swiss Economic Award 2008, the most important award for young entrepreneurs in Switzerland. 2011 he co-founded Polarstern, the pioneer for cutting edge energy products for a sustainable energy future. He is in charge of Business Development, Energy Trading, Finance and Marketing. In 2014, he was awarded one of the top 100 of the Purpose Economy.

Fabian Riedel

Crusta Nova

Fabian Riedel studied Law at the University of Passau and the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. In 2012, at the age of 29, Fabian Riedel founded the Crusta Nova. In 2017 the new venture was awarded with the Bavarian Founders Price. Seven years after the inception, Crusta Nova is the largest sustainable, land-based fish farm in Europe that produces and trades brine shrimps of Premium Quality.

Bernd Hausmann

Founder & CEO

Bernd Hausmann founded glore in 2006. There are now 9 green fashion concept stores in Germany and Switzerland. He is in the supervisory board of the HempAge AG and is the owner of the fashion sales agency HAVEN. He was consulting several companies like the BIOFACH or ZEBRAHAM. Over the last 12 years he tried to push the fashion industry into a more sustainable and social way.


Students have the possibility to organize housing individually or
to take a shared room with Meininger Hotel from July 20 to
31. The hotel is located in the city center, just five minutes from
Munich’s central railroad station and ten minutes from the main
campus of TUM.
The accommodation fee includes free wireless internet access, a
breakfast buffet each day (from 7am until 10 am) and access to a
games room and bar.
The following accommodation types are available:
Rooms of 4 beds: € 33 per person/night
Room of 6 beds : € 30 per person/night
Rooms of 8 beds: € 27 per person/night
*Single rooms may be available upon request (€ 75 per night) and
please be aware that places are limited. Prices are subject to change
