78th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Chicago

The 78th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM) took place in Chicago, Illinois, USA, from August 10 to August 14, 2018. The AOM is the biggest and most famous conference for management scholars. This year’s theme was “Improving Lives”. The motto raised the question: Improving Health and Well-being in Society: How Can Organizations Help? Organizations have an interdependent relationship with society and could contribute to the improvement of the health and well-being of those who live in it. The 2018 AOM conference tackled the questions of how to define the organizations’ responsibility and what is required to address the challenges of improving a society’s physical, psychological, social, and financial health.

At this year’s AOM Meeting there were over 30 presentations by members of TUM School of Management. As part of the conference, TUM School of Management gave a “Bavarian Breakfast” reception at the Swissôtel in Chicago on August 12, 2018. Guests were invited by Prof. Dr. Claudia Peus, Senior Vice President of Technical University of Munich, and  Prof. Dr. Gunther Friedl, Dean of TUM School of Management. The reception was given in order to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), TUM School of Management´s triple crown accreditation and the establishment of the new TUM Campus Heilbronn. Thanks to a mega-endowment from Dieter Schwarz Stiftung (DSS) the new campus in Heilbronn can commence its operations from winter semester 2018/19 which also involves the recruiting of 20 new faculty members in the areas of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Strategic Management, Finance & Accounting, Operations & Supply Chain Management, and Corporate Law. The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Claudia Peus, who held an interesting speech on the university’s and faculty’s achievements regarding the 150-year anniversary, the triple crown accreditation and the TUM Campus Heilbronn. Over 150 international participants attended the reception which included a Bavarian buffet with traditional delights such as pretzels, sausages and much more.
