„Green Office“ – A more sustainable campus in Straubing

Students at TUM Campus Straubing have begun an international initiative to bring their university to a even more sustainable state. In the words of Adrian Heider, one of the employees at the initiative, „sustainability should be more than an abstract concept in a classroom – it should also be implemented practically in the day-to-day life of the campus“.
„Green Office“ is an international student initiative that was already implemented successfully in the Netherlands and has now been kick started at the Campus Straubing. The program allows students to establish an office in the university which is dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions at the institution, 60 of these offices already exist in European universities.

Even though the project is still in its infancy at Straubing, being currently led by only 2 Students, the campus has always had a strong attachment to environmental research and sustainable energy, attracting many students who wish to specialize themselves in this new and very sought-after field. TUM School of Management also has a deeply rooted commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility, focusing on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, which unites companies and universities in a partnership for global responsible development. In Straubing, students of TUM School of Management’s Bachelor in Management & Technology can specialize themselves in the field Renewable Resources.

The Green Office project was started at the Campus Straubing in the beginning of March 2018 but more equipment and funding is set to arrive soon. Engaged students are also encouraged to join the initiative.
