How to Apply
All applications are reviewed by the admissions committee.
If you have any questions about the application process, please take a look at our FAQs.
1.1) Entrance Requirements
- Abitur (university entrance qualification) or equivalent
- A personal motivational letter (max. 2 A4 pages long)
- Successful completion of the assessment process
- Proficiency in either the English or German language based on our requirements. If your final two years of your highschool education were taught in either English or German (for example a German Abitur), you are exempt from having to present a language certificate of any kind. Please refer here for more details.
1.2) Applicants with a German Abitur
Please see the admission process overview on the page below.
1.3) Applicants with international university entrance qualifications (e.g. secondary level education qualifications from countries that are not Germany)
All international applicants must apply via uni-assist (please note that you can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist at any time throughout the year). As well as applying via uni-assist, international applicants must also apply directly via the TUMonline portal (instructions can be found here). Further information for applicants applying with an IB Diploma can be found here.
We follow a two-step programme so as to be able to ensure that we select those applicants that are most qualified and suitable for the programme.
2.1) Applicants with a German Abitur
When reviewing your application we will take both your final Abitur grade into account, as well as your three individual half-year grades (“Halbjahresnoten”) in German or English, Mathematics and in any Advanced Natural Science subject.
Applicants who do not have any grades in one or more of those subjects will be invited for an interview directly.
2.2) Applicants with an international university entrance qualification
When reviewing your application we will take your final grade and the grades you received in your last two years of secondary school in the subjects German or English, Mathematics and an Advanced Natural Science into account.
If we cannot assess your individual grades in the above-mentioned subjects, we will base our assessment on the final grade (GPA) of your university entrance qualification and your performance in the admission interview. Applicants who do not have any grades in one or more of those subjects will be invited for an interview directly.
The interviews for the winter semester (2019 / 2020) intake will take place on July 26th, August 2nd and September 13th, 2019 for the main campus in Munich.
The interview dates for the Straubing campus (only for Specialization “Renewable Resources”) will be announced here.
The interview dates for the Heilbronn campus (only for Specialization “Digital Technologies”) are not yet known and will be announced here.
Please note that interviews can only take place on these dates and are in-person interviews! You can choose which date you would prefer on the online application form. If you need to attend an interview you will receive an invitation, as well as additional information about the process, via e-mail.
