With this master program, you will reach your goal of becoming an expert in consumer affairs with a unique international profile. This truly interdisciplinary education offers you an inspiring combination of management studies with social and consumer sciences.

Students choosing this program have academic backgrounds in management, economics, sociology or psychology. You can apply and join them if you hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the respective areas, with at least 30 ECTS credit points in socio-economic courses.

The Master in Consumer Affairs (MCA) is one of a kind in Germany, guaranteeing you a unique academic experience with fellow students from many different countries and with various academic backgrounds. The students’ diversity as well as a broad curriculum content nurtures the exchange of different perspectives, fosters intercultural skills, and prepares you for a successful career in an international environment.

This program is highly challenging as it combines different disciplinary perspectives. It requires a sound theoretical and methodological foundation which will be provided by courses mainly during the first semester. The goal is to give you a sufficient background for more specialized studies in the following courses.

The Master in Consumer Affairs gives you the possibility to concentrate on one of the two specializations: “Sustainable Consumption” (SC) and “Consumer, Technology and Innovation” (CTI).

Consumer, Technology and Innovation (CTI)

This specialization provides you with profound knowledge of technology and innovation management. You will learn about consumer history and food economics and discuss human values and business ethics. Regulatory economics and policy may also be considered.

Sustainable Consumption (SC)

The relevance of sustainability is constantly increasing with rising demand on water, energy, and food. For this reason, careful utilisation of these resources is indispensable for the future of humankind. Learn about consumer behavior and about the impact governments and companies have.
The field in which you specialize is entirely up to you. You may sharpen your individual profile and also choose other interdisciplinary management modules from the many elective modules offered by the TUM School of Management.
