With a Little Help From a Friend

Our Buddy Program guides freshmen and, exchange students through their first steps.

TUM School of Management is always looking for buddies who support freshmen or exchange students when they first arrive in Munich. By participating, you have a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the world, attend fun events and make new friends. On top of that, you might be able to improve your foreign language skills and gain in-depth intercultural competencies.
Buddies help their protégés feel comfortable after arriving in the new environment and sometimes even before they arrive in Munich. Altogether, buddies play a large role in making studying at TUM School of Management a valuable experience.

As a buddy, you

  • explain how TUMonline works and how the campus is structured.
  • introduce the students to life in Munich.
  • help organize regular meetings and build a personal network.
  • plan and attend events such as regulars’ tables (in German “Stammtische”) and other get-togethers throughout the semester.
  • draw up a personal course schedule for your protégé with the help of our International Office.
  • help exchange students find accommodation and improve their German language skills.
  • provide general support for freshmen and exchange students in all study-related matters.

Become a Buddy

Buddies for freshmen

For one semester, you will support a group of freshmen. You will provide assistance during their first semester at TUM School of Management and organize events and get-togethers.

As a TUM Buddy, you should be able to communicate in German and English.

Volunteering as a buddy is a great way to meet and assist your fellow students and can be a lot of fun. Furthermore, you have the possibility to receive bonus points for your application with our TUM SOMex (incl. ERASMUS+) program, by participating in the Buddies for freshmen program.

Buddies for exchange students

TUM School of Management also offers a separate Buddy Program for exchange students. In the course of this one-on-one program, you will support one international student before and during his or her semester. Volunteering as a buddy is a great way to meet foreign students and can be a lot of fun. Furthermore, you get the chance to practice your English language skills and learn about a different culture.

When filling out your application, you can state your interest in specific nationalities. This can help you establish a relationship to the country or university in which you are planning to spend your own semester abroad.

TUM School of Management students who participate in the Buddy Program for exchange students receive bonus points for their own application with our TUM SOMex (incl. ERASMUS+) program.

As a buddy to an exchange student, you should be able to communicate in German and English.
