TUM School of Management students win 2016 EFMD Case Writing Competition in two categories

TUM School of Management students have won the 2016 EFMD Case Writing Competition organized by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) in two categories.

The EFMD is an international, not-for profit, membership organization of business schools and organizations and a globally acknowledged body for quality and impact assessment with nearly 900 member organizations seated in Brussels, Belgium.

Every year, the EFMD Case Writing Competition is looking for outstanding case studies dealing with real enterprises in different categories ranging from issues in Corporate Social Responsibility to Sustainable Production Systems.

The team of master students in Management & Technology Frieder Johann Weidenbach, Franziska Beck and Michael Krauß received the award in the category “Urban Transition Challenges”, which asks for case studies dealing with the challenges raised for cities and their building infrastructure and transport system due to climate change, therefore making upfront investment difficult. In their winning case study, “unu GmbH: Sharing is caring – a suitable business model for e-scooters in Germany?” the team of three analyzed the German e-scooter company unu and its business model of scooter-sharing.

The second winning team of Phillip Deisler, Michael Georg Eisenlauer and Fahrudin Abazi convinced the jury with their case study “UBS: Acquisition of Commerzbank AG as a possible growth strategy”, in which they analyzed a possible acquisition of Commerzbank AG by UBS AG as a matter of growth opportunity, and win the first prize in the category “Finance and Banking”.

The prize is endowed with 2,000 Euros and will be awarded during a ceremony held at the 2017 EFMD Annual conference which will take place from 7 to 9 June 2017 in Berlin.
